Who is Sammifi?

I am Sammifi, otherwise known as Samantha Evans. I hope you are enjoying perusing my site, I know I enjoyed creating it. I thought maybe you would like to know a bit more about me and how I came to be Sammifi.

I graduated from Birmingham City University (Birmingham City University) in 2008. There I achieved 1st Class Honours – BA Hons Textile Design, specialising in Embroidery. Since University I have been developing my ideas for Sammifi, also working full-time for my local council. Not happy with the job market I decided to put my time and creative juices into Sammifi. The name came from a nickname my Aunty gave me when I was younger and it remains.

My mission is for people to have fun when wearing my headwear. I insert text and messages into my fabric designs so the wearer could have a personal message attached, I believe that fashion is confidence boosting and I want my wearers want to go out feeling a little bit more couture than before. Be brave take the fashion leap!

I also revamp hats. I recently gave a friends Old Hat some loving to wear for Ascott. The hat as a structure was sound, but it was the trimmings that needed creative attention. So the hat went from plain to extravagant! Revamping hats ties in with the current issue of recycling, the impact of fast fashion reaching landfill. I like to think that by revamping hats, some good is being done and a fashion accessory is saved! Phew!

Not only do I create headwear, I also design fabrics for Fashion and the Home. Please refer to my online portfolios, they are continually updated.

One of my other interests is in education and I teach workshops in schools creating Textiles and Headpieces, I also work with other arts organisations. So if you are a school or community group, get in touch.
